Marithé + François Girbaud. Articulated cropped trousers, ivory stone, early 2000s, Made in Italy.

Ivory stone stretch cotton twill, 98% cotton with 2% elastane. Five-pocket western cut, button fly, belt loops, slim tapered leg cropped to a turned cuff. Very low rise. Contrast stitch-mapping runs through the seams and pockets, with Girbaud’s angled X-pocket stitching at the front. Made in Italy by Interfashion SPA, Rimini, the house’s longtime Italian production.

Girbaud built their name treating the jean as an engineering problem. They industrialized stonewashing and developed stretch denim by working elastane into cotton, and they used contrast topstitching to draw the cut rather than decorate it. This sits in their early-2000s utilitarian-chic period.
