Marithé Bachellerie engineered the textiles. François Girbaud directed the styles and silhouettes. While maintaining a constant flow of collaboration between the two. And now, can be looked upon as a continuous research study into material expertise and technological innovative processes.

The evolution of their partnership took momentum in 1976 when they introduced stonewashing [ The practice of centrifuging raw denim with pumice stone to age and relax the fabric. ].

In 1977, they followed up with the Cargo Baggy. One of the first of its kind within occidental fashion spaces.

1981 is where they repositioned the pocket at a 33 degree angle, altering the standard pocket into an X shape. Calling it the X-pocket.

They pursued the experimentation in 1986 with Stretch denim. [ Materials that had more elasticity blended cotton ].

By 1995 - 1997, their focus shifted towards construction more and the use of laser cutting, ultrasonic welding, and what they called ‘’techno-fusion’’ began. [ Garments were assembled without seams, threads, needles, or adhesives. ].

And then came Blue Eternal in 1997, a colouring method that allowed denim to never fade.

2003 pushed the laser techniques further with Imajean [ laser-engraved imagery directly onto denim. ]. Which brought them to create Wattwash in 2008, a method that removed stonewashing entirely by replacing it with laser. The denim was now aged differently and it helped reduce water consumption from production by 97.5 percent. This technique works on other materials such as leather.
